I am not one of those who find themselves elated about the New Year.
Come on people, you know it is just a changing of a date on the calendar, and
does not mean much unless you want to fall a prey to those who are out there to
unburden you of your earnings. Or, to let your hair down on a particular day to
revelries and then bouncing back to old habits, which most
follow almost on the weekends, every month.
We must, however, endeavour to preserve an optimal level of excellence
every moment, each day, regardless of the day of the month, or the date on the
calendar.
Read something by Brazilian author and lyricist Paulo Coelho, which
made ample sense to me not just for the second day of the year, but something
to be absorbed and abided by throughout the year. Sharing the man’s words for you
to reflect upon.
"Be present. Make love. Make tea. Avoid small talk. Embrace conversation. Buy a plant, water it. Make your bed. Make someone else’s bed. Have a smart mouth, and quick wit. Run. Make art. Create. Swim in the ocean. Swim in the rain. Take chances. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Learn. Know your worth. Love fiercely. Forgive quickly. Let go of what doesn’t make you happy. Grow."
